Here's the Point

THE National Milk Processor Education Program, which manages the National Milk Mustache Got Milk? campaign, last week launched the Great Gallon Give, a program that will give away hundreds of thousands of gallons of milk to raise awareness of the importance of milk "in building strong families," according to an announcement.

Events are scheduled from coast to coast at which milk processors will give away more than 200,000 gal. of milk to people in attendance. To find out where the events will be, download a coupon for a free gallon of milk and register to win a one-year supply of milk, go to www.whymilk.com, the announcement said.

Actress Rebecca Romijn appears with her twin daughters in the newest Got Milk? ad to help promote milk's role in nurturing strong families and milk processors' plans to give away hundreds of thousands of gallons of milk at events and through Feeding America. As part of the program, milk processors will also donate milk and make a cash contribution to Feeding America by giving the organization $1 -- up to $100,000 -- for every "virtual gallon" of milk that's sent to friends through Facebook.com/MilkMustache, the announcement said.

The giveaway will be assisted by actress Rebecca Romijn, who appears this week in a new Got Milk? print spot with her twin daughters.

Milk Processor Education Program chief executive officer Vivien Godfrey said the giveaway is designed "to salute moms for all they do" to provide their families with "nourishing choices" such as milk, which is rich in minerals and vitamins.

She said studies show that children who regularly drink milk have higher-quality diets and stronger bones and tend to be leaner.

Romijn said she would encourage "all moms to build strong families in 2010 by setting their tables with milk."

Feeding America provides food to more than 25 million people facing hunger in the U.S. every year through a network of more than 200 food banks in all 50 states that support about 63,000 local agencies that provide food to individuals and families in need.
